Ban

This is my buddy, my cat Banastre ("Ban" for short). I named him after Banastre Tarleton, the notorious British cavalry officer in the American Revolutionary War and my favorite historical figure from that time period.

I think the picture above kind of shows off Ban's personality. I had him when he was a little kitten, and he grew into a big cat, weighing in at around 17 pounds these days. He's such a laid back, goofy, sweet guy and loves to play. I got him in 2004 from a litter of one of the stray cats around my parents' place, and Rod and I took him to Lynchburg with us while I was still working for the MVCreations art studio. When we moved back up to Maryland at the end of 2004, he stayed with us at my parents' house until we found another place to live.

Unfortunately, the apartment complex we moved into wouldn't allow pets, so Ban had to stay with my parents. I've had cats around me all my life and I am a big cat person, and it was strange to suddenly be without one for long periods of time. But at least I could still visit Ban, and he loves to go outside so my parents' house-- surrounded by a large yard and woods-- was perfect for him. Even when Rod and I bought our first house a couple years ago, we all kind of decided that Ban would stay with my parents anyway. My dad and Ban have bonded, and there's no way I could destroy that. And I wouldn't want to take him away from that big yard he loves so much.

And I wouldn't want to deprive my parents of this, which happens while they are both at work and Ban is bored:

So anyway. I'm sitting here, alone in my house at the moment, and I'm missing the little guy. So I figured a blog post would be kinda cool.

But I have pages to draw, so I'm going to get back to work and occupy myself. And I promise that I'll have my San Diego Comic-Con post up at some point. I still haven't forgotten.
